Racold water heater Heating Element

How to Replace Old Heating Element with New Heating Element ?

1. First of all make sure that the power to the geyser is off, and the plug is removed from the socket.
2. Drain The Water From the Geyser,  make sure that the tap supplying the inlet pipe is turned off, use the small nozzle on the non return valve to drain the water
3. Unscrew the Baseplate or Cover of the water heater
4. For Old Water Heaters - Unscrew the Drain Enclosure (small screw type enclosure on the assembly of the water heater) only in water heaters with assemble, varies brand to brand. ------ Release the pressure relief valve on the geyser to drain out all the water.

This will take anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes to drain,  before you remove the power cable to the thermostat, thermal cutout and or to the element take a note of which cable goes where or a photo with your phone so you dont connect the wires wrongly while fitting it back

in some geysers the thermostat will sit next to the element and in others the thermostat will be part of the element. in the latter you will need to remove the thermostat by simply pulling it away from the element.

you will now need a geyser spanner (tubular spanner) or a cutting player to be able to remove the nuts that hold the heating element, take care while removing the screws of the heating element add oil if necessary make sure you dont break or damage the coil screw thread.

In some instances you will need quite a lot of leverage as the elements do tend to sit pretty tight, use the cutting player to cut the element while pulling it out. when the element is loose and out make sure that the rubber seal came off properly as well. you'll need to clean it thouroughly before inserting the new element with its new rubber seal,

screw it back into place, ensure that you don't tighten it to hard, insert the thermostat again and reconnect the power cables. do not switch on the power before the geyser is filled with water otherwise you will burn the element. turn on the water tap to the geyser and open all the hot water taps connected to the geyser.

switch the geyser on only once you drain a full a bucket of water or more from the hot water tap connected to the geyser.
You have now completed to coil replacement, and can switch the geyser on.
